Finding Fifty for Me

For me, turning 49 was a pivotal year. I was closing a chapter in my life and I was ready to begin a new one. Reinvent myself. To “what” I was not sure? The possibilities seemed endless.

Perhaps 50 marks a natural milestone where we begin to take stock of our lives. We realize that in the blink of an eye we went from 10 straight to 50! Where did all the time go? What have I accomplished? What do I still want to accomplish? How many “somedays” do I have left?
I had more questions than answers, but I wasn’t going to sit around and over analyze the situation. If I wanted to change my life, I was going to make drastic changes.
For me it has been Great! I have lived more and accomplished more in the past five years than in the bulk of my adult life. I have moved to four different states/cities. I have started a new business and worked in three different industries simply because I found them interesting. I have boldly taken on projects by saying, “sure, I can do that!” Then figured out the details. I have read more books than I can count and thoroughly researched subjects. Again, because I found them interesting. Most recently we moved into a RV full-time because, “we’ve always wanted to” and “we thought it would be a fun adventure.” We have been fascinated by Tiny Living for quite awhile and finally asked ourselves, “what are we waiting for?”
Since turning 50 I have made it my mission to be daring and seek adventure. If something interests me, I explore it and experience it. I am not afraid to try new things because failure is no longer in my vocabulary. Some things I like, some I don’t. I don’t waste time fretting over it, I am simply glad for the experience.
None of us know for certain what the future holds. However, I am reasonably certain that Finding Fifty won’t be boring. ~Johnny
